The stairs are now void of tracks.  There is a dark, coolness, to the water that travels in the valley below.  The gray skies of early winter, are dropping their blanket of white ever so gently, one fine particle at a time.

The weather reporting team up north is quite a fiasco.  Somehow their is a difference in these:

Lake Effect Snow Warning /Lake Effect Snow Advisory/Lake Effect  Snow Watch

Pretty sure it has something to do with how far away from THE lake you actually live!  If you're right on the lake shore, it's a "Warning" to be ready to get buried. If you are within fifteen miles inland of the lake shore, be "Advised" you'll see an extra foot before daybreak.  Inland, we just get the "Watch" version.  That means those big huge dark rollers, like dirty fingers, coming down from the Northwest.  If you are under one of those clouds, you're getting like three inches of white stuff an hour.

Then they thrown in terms like "Alberta Clipper".  This storm front might of started in Canada, but I doubt actually Alberta. The seven day forecast is daily white stuff, but always watching a real winter storm early in the week.  Somehow there is a difference in a "Clipper" and a "Storm".  We tend to think a clipper moves right through, while a storm might last a couple days or so.

This is the time of year I actually have to order products for next spring.  In this economy, no early orders normally means no product available on a phone call next spring.  Fishing, and specifically trout fishing is much more resilient than that.  Hydro therapy keeps us sane to take on our normal day to day jobs.

I've planned my orders accordingly.  That there will be anglers in need of boots and waders, and carefully chosen other products that one simply couldn't resist.  And I've ordered chairs for the rooms, cause they needed it.  And I've ordered up stuff for the kitchen, because someone has to step up to the plate and actually spend money this winter!

If you get stuck watching the news, and reading the paper lines daily, it's all doom and gloom.  Yet, go to the mall.... there isn't a place to park!  Go out to eat.  Folks open the door, smile and are glad to have a job!  Another sign of a turn around is the price of gas.  Sure is nice to fill up at $30 now versus that $75 tab just two months ago.

I'm no Alan Greenspan and there is certainly no bail out in my future cause I ordered in too much spring product.  Quit watching the market and go have some fun.

Those of you tired of getting socks and underwear for Christmas, take a look at the "Shop Specials" on this site.  Some wonderful stuff there guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face, should it happen to show up under the tree.

News on the Conservation front.  The Mason Tract.  The Forest Service has filed an appeal to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.  Normally, a clerk is assigned to read the case and figure out where the lower courts steered the case.  Even the greeter at Wall Mart can figure out that the project now calls for a full Environmental Impact Statement, (EIS).

On an interesting side note, Savoy Energy of Traverse City, the drilling company, has filed to intervene and appeal on their own.  They have been the snake in the grass all through these preceding, and could of certainly joined suit with the FS much earlier.  They site their monetary interest in the mineral lease, not being represented in the current case.

Pretty sure, if the lease holder cannot comply with NEPA to extract whatever they bid on.... then the lease isn't worth the paper its written on.

Move the drilling pad back to River Lake Road... out of the river corridor.... and we'll go away.
