Date : November 15, 2008

General Fishing Conditions... Steelhead, Salmon and Brown Trout!

Attention Fly Tyers: We have the Maruto hooks back in stock! Order yours now because they will go fast!

Our river conditions are very good.  Generally Steelhead are our target in November, however Brown Trout fishing is a hoot fishing streamers.

The DNR has opened the Little Manistee Weir. Fall and winter Steelhead can now assend the river. Start looking for Coho Salmon on the Little Man now thru the end of the year.

Dee Spencer proudly displays her steelhead.

Manistee River - Below Tippy Dam

Water levels are normal, fishing is  good.

Steelhead and Brown Trout are the name of the game right now and for the rest of the fall. Our guides report Steelhead everyday and fishing is good. Brown Trout are starting to come to streamers, but the number of Browns seem to be way down this year.

The best flies for Steelhead right now are Glo Bug's in Oregon Cheese and Clown. We are taking fish on Caddis Larva and STS Buggers also.

Swinging flies has been productive,  Jay's Squirrel Leech has been working well.

Manistee River - Below Hodenpyl Dam

The water is normal for this time of year. This is the time of the year when this section of river starts to fish good again. Streamer and nymph fishing is the most productive method. Check with us for more info.

Visit the USGS Big Manistee River Water Flow Data (USGS) for detailed water flow information, graphs and charts. We also have an information page on the Manistee River

Pine River Report

The river is closed for the season. The pine re-opens the last Saturday of April 2009.

Pine River

Little Manistee Report

The Weir is open as of 11/6/08

The river is at normal flows and clear. Trout, Steelhead and Coho Salmon is the target for the balance of the fall. The Coho salmon generally come to the river mid-November thru December. This is a fun fish and they come to the fly very well.

Bear Creek Report

The Bear is a great trout, steelhead and salmon stream and should not be overlooked. Steelhead are beginning to show and will get better with this foul weather as of late. The Bear is open up to 13 mile rd coming east out of Bear Lake. Check with our shop for access points..
